BORE LOCATOR – UNDERGROUND CONSTRUCTION:
Job Summary:
The HDD (Horizontal Directional Drilling) Bore Locator is responsible for the precise location and monitoring of boreholes during the drilling process. This role requires the operation of specialized GPS and sonar equipment to track and map the position of the bore as it progresses, ensuring that the drill path stays within the designated alignment and depth.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate and maintain bore locating systems such as GPS, gyroscopic, and magnetic survey equipment to accurately track the drill head during the directional drilling process.
- Monitor real-time data to ensure the drill is staying on course and adjust drilling parameters as needed to achieve project goals.
- Perform daily checks and calibrations of locating equipment to ensure accurate readings.
- Collaborate with the drilling crew, project managers, and engineers to ensure safe and efficient drilling operations.
- Provide accurate reports on bore progress, depth, location, and any potential deviations or issues.
- Ensure compliance with all safety standards and company policies.
- Assist in troubleshooting and resolving any issues with the bore locating systems or drilling operations.
- Document all survey data and maintain accurate records of bore locations and related information.
- Provide on-site support during the construction and installation of underground utilities and pipelines.
- Skills and Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s Degree or technical certification in a related field is a plus).
- Proven experience as an HDD Bore Locator or in a similar role in the construction or drilling industry.
- Familiarity with HDD equipment and technologies, including GPS, magnetic, and gyroscopic locating systems.
- Strong understanding of underground utility installation practices and drilling techniques.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and blueprints.
- Ability to work in various environmental conditions and under tight deadlines.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- OSHA certification or equivalent safety training is preferred.
- Willingness to work in the field and travel as required.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Stamina for working in physically demanding and fast-paced environments.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and navigate construction sites safely.
Working Conditions:
- Field-based role with frequent travel to job sites.
- May involve long hours depending on project schedules.
- Exposure to construction sites, noise, and varying weather conditions.
Pay:
- $24-28
