Job Overview:
We are looking for a skilled HDD Drill Operator at level (1, 2, or 3) to join our team. In this role, you’ll operate our in-house directional drill, develop drilling plans, and carry out the required work to successfully install client facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate directional drills and follow drilling plans to execute installations.
- Travel to various job sites to perform site surveys, plan, and execute drilling operations.
- Have a thorough understanding of underground piping, conduit, cable, and fiber installation.
- Conduct directional drilling, locate utilities, and read project blueprints.
- Review plans to determine the starting point and drilling process.
- Monitor the progress of drilling sites to ensure they stay on schedule.
- Assess job sites for utilities, permits, and traffic control to avoid errors, safety issues, or damage.
- Perform regular inspections and maintenance of vehicles, trailers, and equipment.
- Carry out minor repairs and service checks on equipment.
- Ensure digging areas are properly staked and marked before starting work.
- Safely operate equipment like directional drills, trenchers, and excavators.
- Perform labor duties as needed.
- Use hand tools, power tools, and motorized equipment to complete tasks.
- Regularly report to the supervisor with updates on bore logs and daily activities.
- Maintain, clean, and winterize equipment as necessary.
- Focus on safety while maximizing productivity and delivering high-quality work.
- Follow safety procedures in line with EPC, OSHA, and ANSI standards.
- Assist in filling water tanks and adding chemicals as needed.
- Attach equipment such as reamers and swivels.
- Make minor repairs and replace worn parts like jaw dies.
Qualifications & Skills:
- High School Diploma or equivalent (preferred).
- Valid U.S. Driver’s License.
- At least 1 year of experience operating drilling and related equipment.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints.
- Knowledge of telecommunications and underground utility locating.
- Experience with directional drills, locating systems, trenchers, backhoes, and excavators.
- Ability to work with a locator/operator during boring processes.
- Strong safety awareness, with or without supervision.
- Knowledge of equipment operation and basic maintenance.
- Experience working with various tools and safety equipment.
- Ability to work in diverse terrains and handle different types of equipment.
- Basic understanding of power systems and their safety functions.
- A Class C CDL and HDD certifications are a plus, but not required.
